Larry Rosenberg has been honored by the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts numerous times for the countless hours he’s spent helping families after naturals disasters and victims of devastating fires.

But one of the most important honors comes from his wife Ann Salk Rosenberg.

Ann Rosenberg is an artist and is donating 250 signed and personalized posters of her artwork to the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts for a gala this Thursday, March 22. She is also loaning her painting, “American Sunrise,” to the event for the evening and a large percentage of the proceeds of its sale will go toward the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

“It just shows that she recognizes that I do this and this is a way for her to show me that she supports me and the cause that I support,” said Rosenberg, who has volunteered for the American Red Cross of Mass Bay for more than 12 years and is the current volunteer partner to the CEO. “I really appreciate it. She recognizes that I do something to support something and that she supports it also.”

Larry Rosenberg spends about 20 to 25 hours a week volunteering for the American Red Cross and was the former chairman of disaster services. He caught the volunteering bug 12 years ago when he drove by a roaring fire at the Omni Supermarket in Chestnut Hill and saw Red Cross trucks outside.

The trucks sparked his curiosity and he wondered about the American Red Cross, a charity he’d associated with giving blood. Rosenberg set up an appointment the following week to learn about volunteering and has never stopped.

He was the liaison at Logan Airport between the families of victims and officials on Sept. 11, 2001.

“It’s what I want to do — helping people and giving back to your community,” he said.

After 12 years, Larry Rosenberg is now one of the senior volunteers at the Kendall Square Red Cross Office. The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts’ CEO Jarrett Barrios describes Larry Rosenberg as the “voice at many policy tables within the Red Cross.”

“He is just an amazing and inspirational person,” Barrios said. “His humble but persuasive approach is never intimidating. It’s frankly just sort of the thing that invites new people in. There’s never enough volunteers.”

Her bold and colorful paintings have been a source of solace and comfort for Ann Rosenberg over the year. In 1984 she was mistakenly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and by 1994 she was completely disabled. Having only taken a couple of painting classes, Rosenberg picked up a paintbrush five years later and realized the relief it provided her even if she was only able to paint in five minute time blocks.

It was all I had then,” she said. “The painting saved me.”Nine years later, Rosenberg was correctly diagnosed with a severe gluten allergy and correctly treated. The treatment provided her with a new outlook on life and her art. She started painting bold, bright colorful pieces – many of them with a female face surrounded by words, shapes and patterns.

“I looked at my paintings with new eyes,” she said. “I repainted all my paintings in 2009.”

Now, Ann Rosenberg said she’s excited to use her painting, something that is so dear to her, to support her husband in a cause that is close to him.

“Larry gets a lot from giving,” she said. “I’m very proud of him.”

The couple, who have been married for 49 years, bought a large Victorian house on Lincoln Street in 1993 and spent two years renovating and rehabilitating it to make it what is now known as the blue “painted lady” house. After three paint jobs, the house features nine different pastel colors and is known throughout the city.

She wanted to feature me in the fabulous art magazine she writes!!!

Right before we left for Paradise City, I received my printed copy of the magazine.

What a great piece she did on me. The quality of her writing and art choices just blows me away. On two pages she wrote about my life and featured My Drum, My Beat, My Reality. The next 10 pages are full-page reproductions of my artwork. It is printed on fabulous heavy paper with just the right amount of gloss.

If you are a fan of my work you might want to take a look at what Christine has to offer. You can buy a single issue or subscribe. Click here.

My work has now been featured in Mumbia India; Paris France; along with various US publications, including The Boston Globe and Chronicle Magazine.

It came out great as you can see from the photos and we got loads of compliments. More importantly, people felt they could spend as time as they wanted in our booth–some even coming back multiple times with friends!

As with everything, it was a learning experience. I think the next show, we are going to tweak it a little and set up a little more private work area.

Although well attended, the 80 degree weather made me think of running through a sprinkler but it was a little late in the season for that!

The good news was that we still did well. Larry and I met art lovers and buyers, collectors, gallery owners and professional fellow artists from all over.

I want to thank all the people who helped us and made it possible to physically pull this off. This includes the good folks who loaded and unloaded our two trucks as well as the friends and family who helped with the set-up and breakdown of the booth. We could not have done it without you.

And while there was no changing foliage to speak of on the way to the show, on the return home, the color had begun to blossom. Clearly a good omen for our upcoming Paradise City Marlborough Show Nov 18-20.

I am excited and nervous. [Click here for more info]

Oct 8, 9 & 10, 2011
3 County Fairgrounds
54 Old Ferry Rd, off Route 9
Northampton, MA 01060

I’m not sure if you got a copy in the mail, but I ran an ad in the Paradise City Fall Guide 2011. What do you think? Do you think that describing my work as “Vibrant Colors, Geometric Shapes and a Touch of Humor on Canvas,” captures their spirit?

Even more thrilling, I am pleased to report that My Drum, My Beat, My Reality is featured in the first article in the Fall Guide. The show within a show is “Picturing the Music”.

Read my poem in the original painting:

“Don’t listen for my drum. It exists only for me!
The beat I follow unknown to others…
A steady cacophony beats in my head….
My drum, my beat, my reality.“

What synergy!

I hope to see you there!

A mere 45 minutes from Newton.

I grew up in Rhode Island and feel very much at home there. If you need something fun to do, come visit.

My location is Riverside Lofts #101, 16 Exchange Court, an artist live/work studio. Lots of fun art and a wonderful bakery down the road. Visit Seven Stars on Hope Street in Providence. Pecan rolls to die for. Fabulous breads and wonderful coffee. Make a day of it and have dinner on Federal Hill. A wonderful Italian neighborhood.

Hope to see you there!

Actually Larry installed and I supervised. The staff at VideoLink were wonderful in helping us with the installation. My ladies do not get intimidated or star struck because they feel comfortable with who they are. In fact, my ladies are proud to be showcased in VideoLink’s three greenrooms and feel free to advise visiting celebrities who are there to film their promotional spots, TV appearances, marketing films, and so on.The show has 21 Giclées as well as two original paintings: Babylonian Voices #1 and Follow Your Heart To Realize Your Dreams, which greets you in the front lobby.
